Rio Grande do Sul is a very fertile state, with per capita
income above the national average, and probably the one in
Brazil where property rights are best defended. The
safest
investments are made in regions that are sparsely populated
and relatively cold, where the risk of land being taken over by squatters
is close to zero.
We recommend the Gramado, Canela, Sao Francisco region,
since the risk of land occupation is almost nil. This
plateau region at 800 meters above sea level is beautiful
and has lots of water. We recommend investments in farmland
for bovine grazing, and for forestry. Some of the best
honey in the world comes from that mountainous area,
where
the air and the water are very pure. This is a good location to have a small farm
which can be used as a retreat. Should your property be too
small for you to manage it directly in a profitable
manner, Terrafin can manage it for you.
The following profitable activities can be developed in the region:
- Cattle ranch (bovine)
- Forestry (eucalyptus and pine)
- Honey production
- Fruit production : Apples, pears, grapes, berries
- Farm tourism
Corn and other grains also grow well in the mountain
regions. Should you be interested in planting soy beans or
growing sugar cane, we can locate farmland in warmer areas,
upon request. Sugar cane, for instance, can be grown in
sparsely populated valleys close to Canela. With the price
of oil going up, sugar cane is an interesting investment.
Considering what large companies like Stora Enso from Finland and Shell are doing in
South America, forestry and
sugar cane are definitely safe and smart investments.
